About Us

A storefront you own, on the AWS account you already have.

FatLeon Commerce is proprietary source code you deploy on your own AWS. One codebase, two licenses: Standard for stores you operate, Agency when you also build for clients.

FatLeon Commerce — A Complete Commerce Platform, Delivered as Source Code.

FatLeon Commerce is a proprietary e-commerce source code product designed for businesses, developers, freelancers, and studios that want greater control over how their online stores are built, deployed, and operated.

Rather than subscribing to a hosted store that runs on someone else's infrastructure, you purchase a one-time license, receive the source code, and deploy your own store into an AWS account that you control.

Built with AWS Amplify Gen 2 and Next.js 14, FatLeon Commerce brings storefront functionality, product management, checkout, order processing, promotions, referrals, content management, and administrative tools together in a single codebase.

The goal is straightforward: provide a practical foundation for launching and customizing an e-commerce business without requiring you to assemble every major part of a storefront from scratch.

FatLeon Commerce is currently offered as version 1.2.0. The product is distributed as proprietary source code under a commercial license. It is not an open-source project, a hosted SaaS subscription, or a service that automatically operates your store for you.

You purchase the software license through fatleon.com, where Paddle.com acts as the merchant of record for the transaction. Once you receive the source code, deployment, infrastructure, configuration, and ongoing store operations remain under your control, subject to the license you purchase.

Whether you are building a store for your own brand or delivering e-commerce projects to clients, FatLeon Commerce provides a shared technical foundation with licensing options designed around these different business needs.

Our Approach

We believe that e-commerce software should give developers and businesses meaningful control over the systems they build.

A hosted platform can be convenient, but it also places much of the underlying application, infrastructure, and customization process within the platform provider's environment. For teams that want to manage their own deployment, integrate their preferred services, or adapt the application to their own requirements, source code offers a different approach.

FatLeon Commerce is built around this principle.

You receive the application source code rather than access to a store hosted and operated by FatLeon. You can inspect the implementation, modify permitted parts of the codebase, maintain your own development workflow, and deploy the application within your own AWS environment.

This model is intended for people who value ownership of their deployment process, technical flexibility, and the ability to work directly with the software they use.

It also comes with clear responsibilities. You manage your infrastructure, configure the services required by your store, and determine how the application is operated after deployment. FatLeon Commerce provides the software foundation; it does not remove the need for deployment, configuration, or ongoing technical management.

Our aim is to make that foundation comprehensive enough to be useful from the beginning, while leaving the implementation and business decisions in your hands.

Two Licenses, One Codebase

FatLeon Commerce is available through two commercial licenses: FatLeon Standard and FatLeon Agency.

Both licenses provide access to the same product and codebase. The distinction is not a separate set of software features, but the scope of the usage rights granted to the purchaser.

This approach keeps the product consistent while accommodating different ways of building and operating e-commerce stores.

FatLeon Standard

For brands, businesses, and in-house teams.

The Standard License is designed for purchasers who operate their own stores and want to manage their e-commerce infrastructure directly.

It allows you to use the licensed source code for your own stores within the scope of the license, including multiple stores that you own and operate, subject to the applicable licensing terms.

You deploy the application on your own AWS infrastructure and remain responsible for its configuration, operation, and maintenance.

The Standard License is suitable for businesses that want a reusable technical foundation for their own e-commerce operations without purchasing a separate license for every qualifying store they operate.

It does not include the Agency License's general permission to build and license stores for unrelated clients.

FatLeon Agency

For freelancers, development studios, integrators, and agencies.

The Agency License is designed for professionals who build e-commerce stores for clients as part of their business.

In addition to the rights available under the applicable Agency License, it permits the licensed use of FatLeon Commerce for client projects within the scope of the license.

You may deploy a client's store using your own AWS infrastructure or the client's AWS infrastructure, subject to the applicable licensing and operational arrangements.

The license also permits the authorized handoff of an individual store project to the relevant client under the license terms. This allows an agency to deliver a project without transferring ownership of the underlying FatLeon Commerce source code.

The client receives the limited rights applicable to that particular store, rather than unrestricted ownership or a general right to reuse the source code for unrelated stores.

For agencies and developers who regularly deliver e-commerce projects, this model provides a common codebase that can support multiple client engagements under one licensing framework.

The Same Product, Different Usage Rights

The Standard and Agency editions share the same underlying software. Purchasing the Agency License does not mean receiving an entirely different application or an additional set of core storefront features.

Instead, the difference concerns how you are authorized to use the product.

Before purchasing, review the applicable license documentation carefully and choose the license that matches your business model.

The license file included with your purchased ZIP archive governs the permitted use of the source code. A plain-language overview is available on our Terms of Service page.

What You Get

FatLeon Commerce brings together the primary components of an online store in one source code package.

Instead of beginning with an empty application and assembling every major commerce function independently, you start with an existing implementation that can be deployed, reviewed, and customized within your technical environment.

A Complete Storefront Foundation

The storefront provides the customer-facing experience through which visitors can browse products, explore categories, discover brands, manage their shopping preferences, and proceed through the purchasing process.

Supported functionality includes:

  • Brand and category browsing.
  • Product tags and product variants.
  • Shopping cart and wishlist.
  • Logged-in checkout.
  • Coupon and promotion functionality.
  • Product and store content presentation.
  • Storefront navigation and related commerce pages.

The storefront is part of the same codebase as the administrative application, helping keep the customer-facing experience and store management functions within one project.

Product and Catalog Management

Product information is central to any e-commerce application. FatLeon Commerce includes catalog-related functionality intended to support the organization and management of the products offered by a store.

The product model supports catalog elements such as brands, categories, tags, and variants.

The package also includes a starter catalog using the same import format as a live store, providing an initial reference for understanding the data structure and preparing product information for your own implementation.

You can use this foundation to understand how catalog information is organized and adapt the application to your requirements within the scope of the license.

Orders and Fulfillment

Order processing is integrated into the broader commerce workflow.

Orders use a status-based workflow, allowing order progress to be represented through defined states. The application also includes support for multi-parcel shipping, accommodating orders that need to be fulfilled across multiple shipments.

These capabilities provide a starting point for implementing the order management and fulfillment processes required by your store.

The exact operational workflow, shipping arrangements, and external integrations remain dependent on your configuration and business requirements.

Promotions and Customer Engagement

FatLeon Commerce includes functionality for coupons, promotions, and referrals.

These components provide a foundation for implementing promotional activities and referral-based customer acquisition within the store.

The product also includes support for blog posts and banners, allowing store operators to manage relevant content alongside their commerce operations.

Together, these capabilities help bring several common storefront and marketing functions into the same application rather than treating every function as an entirely separate project.

Administrative Dashboard

The administrative interface provides tools for managing key aspects of the store.

Depending on the relevant feature, the admin area covers product catalog management, inventory, site settings, support tickets, and a basic analytics overview.

The intention is to provide store operators with a central place to access important management functions without requiring them to work exclusively through the underlying database or source code.

The administrative tools are part of the licensed application and are intended to be deployed and configured within your own environment.

Developer Documentation and Prompts

The package includes developer documentation and prompts intended to provide context when working with the codebase.

These materials can help developers understand the project structure, review relevant implementation details, and establish a more consistent starting point when planning subsequent modifications.

They are particularly useful when working with AI-assisted development tools, where clear project context can help guide code exploration and proposed changes.

The documentation and prompts are supporting resources rather than a guarantee that every requested modification can be implemented automatically or without technical review.

Technology Stack

FatLeon Commerce is built on a modern web application stack centered on Next.js and AWS Amplify Gen 2.

The application combines a React-based frontend with managed AWS services for authentication, API operations, data storage, file storage, and content delivery.

The principal technologies used by the product include:

Frontend

  • Next.js 14
  • React 18
  • Material UI (MUI)
  • next-intl for internationalization-related functionality

Backend and Infrastructure

  • AWS Amplify Gen 2
  • Amazon Cognito for authentication-related functionality
  • AWS AppSync for API functionality
  • Amazon DynamoDB for data storage
  • AWS Lambda for server-side functions
  • Amazon S3 for storage
  • Amazon CloudFront for content delivery

Payments

  • Mock payment functionality
  • Stripe integration
  • PayPal integration

Payment integrations are disabled until you configure and enable the relevant provider.

Email

  • SMTP configuration managed through the admin settings

Deployment

  • Next.js standalone deployment through AWS Amplify Hosting

The technology stack provides the basis for a customizable commerce application while allowing you to manage the deployment and supporting services within your own AWS environment.

The availability and behavior of individual services may depend on AWS configuration, provider credentials, regional availability, third-party requirements, and the way you choose to deploy the application.

Deployment Under Your Control

FatLeon Commerce is delivered as source code, not as a hosted store managed by FatLeon.

After purchasing a license, you deploy the application into an AWS account under your control, or into an authorized client's AWS account where permitted by the Agency License.

This arrangement gives you responsibility for the infrastructure on which the store operates.

You manage your AWS account, configure the application, enable the required services, and determine how the deployed store is maintained.

AWS charges are separate from the one-time FatLeon Commerce license purchase. Depending on your deployment, infrastructure expenses may include hosting, storage, database operations, bandwidth, and other services used by your application.

You are also responsible for configuring the integrations required by your business, including payment providers, email delivery, and store settings.

FatLeon does not automatically host or operate your deployed store, manage your AWS account, or assume responsibility for your ongoing infrastructure costs.

For teams that want to control their technical environment directly, this is a fundamental part of the product model rather than an incidental implementation detail.

Important Limitations

FatLeon Commerce provides a broad e-commerce foundation, but it is important to understand what the current version does and does not include.

We prefer to describe the product's existing capabilities clearly so that purchasers can assess whether it is appropriate for their requirements before making a purchase.

Tax and VAT

The current version does not include a dedicated EU VAT engine or a comprehensive tax engine that automatically calculates tax for every country.

You are responsible for evaluating the tax requirements applicable to your store and implementing any additional configuration or integrations required by your business.

Refund Processing

The application does not automatically issue a refund through Stripe or PayPal when a return is approved in the admin interface.

The supported workflow requires the store operator to approve the return in Admin and then process the corresponding refund through the relevant payment provider's dashboard.

Guest Checkout

Guest checkout is disabled by default.

If your intended business model requires guest purchases, you should review the application's configuration and implementation requirements before deployment.

Single-Currency Store

A store uses one currency at a time, selected from the supported options of USD, EUR, or HKD.

The current version should not be treated as a complete multi-currency commerce system in which a single store automatically supports simultaneous checkout in multiple currencies.

Infrastructure and Third-Party Configuration

The source code does not automatically create every third-party account, supply all required credentials, or configure every external service for your business.

You must complete the relevant setup and verify that the application works correctly in your chosen environment.

These limitations are important considerations when evaluating the product. If your business requires a capability that is not included, you should assess the additional development or integration work needed before selecting a license.

Who Is FatLeon Commerce For?

FatLeon Commerce is designed for purchasers who want to work directly with an e-commerce codebase and manage their own deployment.

It may be appropriate for several types of users.

Brands and in-house teams may use the Standard License to establish and operate their own stores using a shared technical foundation.

Freelancers and independent developers may use the Agency License when delivering authorized store projects for clients.

Development studios and integrators may use the Agency License as a common starting point for client implementations, while managing project delivery and deployment according to the applicable license.

Technically capable businesses may prefer a source code product because they want direct access to the implementation and control over their infrastructure rather than relying entirely on a hosted platform.

The product is not intended to remove every technical responsibility from the purchaser. It is a source code solution for people and organizations prepared to manage the deployment and operation of their own stores.

Licensing and Intellectual Property

FatLeon Commerce is proprietary software.

Purchasing a license grants the rights expressly described in the applicable license documentation. It does not transfer ownership of the underlying FatLeon Commerce intellectual property.

The source code may be modified and used within the permissions granted by the purchased license. However, the license does not generally authorize unrestricted redistribution, resale, sublicensing, or publication of the source code.

The Standard and Agency licenses have different permitted usage scopes, particularly in relation to stores operated for clients.

The applicable license file included with your purchased ZIP archive governs those rights. The license summary on our Terms of Service page is intended to help purchasers understand the principal distinctions before purchasing.

Please review the relevant documentation carefully before using the software in a commercial project.

Purchase and Support

FatLeon Commerce licenses are available directly through the product pages on fatleon.com.

Purchases are processed by Paddle.com, which acts as the merchant of record. The source code is delivered in accordance with the applicable order and delivery arrangements.

Our Perspective

We see FatLeon Commerce as a practical foundation for building and operating e-commerce stores with greater control over the underlying software and infrastructure.

A single codebase provides the storefront, administrative functionality, and supporting commerce workflows. The source code delivery model allows developers and businesses to work directly with the implementation and adapt it to their own requirements within the scope of the license.

The Standard and Agency licensing options reflect two different ways of using that foundation: operating your own stores and delivering stores for clients.

We aim to present the product, its licensing boundaries, and its current limitations clearly so that purchasers can make informed decisions about whether it fits their technical and commercial needs.

If you are looking for a proprietary e-commerce source code product that you can deploy on your own AWS infrastructure, FatLeon Commerce offers a starting point for building your store around a codebase you can access and manage.

One codebase. Two licenses. Your infrastructure. Your store.
